Residents of **Amaise Autonomous Community, Umuobiala, Isuikwuato Local Government Area** of Abia State have appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Abia State Government to urgently intervene in the worsening gully erosion threatening their community.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the appeal followed NEMA’s recent inspection of erosion sites in Ebem Ohafia, a development residents described as commendable and encouraging.
CDA News gathered from the appeal that the gully erosion in Amaise has existed for more than a decade and continues to endanger lives, homes, farmlands, and major access roads within the community. Residents expressed concern that the erosion has continued to expand, posing a serious environmental and humanitarian challenge.
Community members urged NEMA and the Abia State Government to extend similar attention to Amaise, noting that prompt intervention would help prevent further destruction and protect vulnerable residents.
According to the appeal, timely government action would not only preserve critical infrastructure but also restore hope to affected families whose livelihoods have been threatened by the persistent erosion.
The people of Umuobiala expressed optimism that their plea would receive positive consideration, stressing that urgent intervention is needed to safeguard the community from further devastation.
