Umudike, Abia State — Residents have raised serious concerns after two electricity poles collapsed along the road serving Umudike Community School, Modern Primary School Umudike, and Umudike Community Secondary School, creating a potential safety hazard for students, teachers, parents, motorists, motorcyclists, and other road users.
CDA News Nigeria gathered from IkwuanoTV that the damaged poles have heightened fears of possible accidents and electrocution, especially with three schools located along the affected road. Community members are calling for urgent intervention to avert a possible tragedy.
According to the report, the fallen poles remain unattended, despite the heavy movement of pupils, teachers and residents through the area on a daily basis. Stakeholders have urged the relevant electricity authorities to treat the situation as an emergency.
“We call on PHCN and the relevant electricity authorities to urgently secure the area and replace the damaged electricity poles without further delay. We also urge residents and all road users to exercise extreme caution until the repairs are completed,” IkwuanoTV said in a public appeal.
Residents have appealed for the report to be widely shared to attract the attention of the appropriate authorities. They expressed hope that swift action will be taken to safeguard lives and restore public safety along the busy route.
