As part of the 2026 Police Week celebrations, the Rivers State Police Command held a Walkathon on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, aimed at promoting physical fitness, public safety awareness, and police visibility across the state.
The event was led by the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, alongside senior management officers, representatives of POWA Rivers State Chapter, PCRC, POCACOV, and distinguished community stakeholders.
Commencing from the Police Headquarters, participants walked through designated routes across the state, engaging with the public and showcasing the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to proactive community policing. Officers and men of the Command actively took part in the exercise, highlighting teamwork, fitness, and public interaction.
The Walkathon aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and his nationwide community policing initiatives designed to build trust between law enforcement and citizens, enhance security, and promote preventive policing strategies.
CSP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer for Rivers State Command, emphasized that the exercise reinforces the importance of public engagement and collaborative efforts in maintaining safety and security across the state.
The event marks the second day of 2026 Police Week activities in Rivers State, reflecting the Command’s commitment to fitness, community interaction, and strengthening partnerships with local residents.
