Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos, for an on-the-spot assessment following a recent gunmen attack on the premier policy training institution.
The visit underscores growing federal concern over the brazen security breach at a facility reserved for top government officials and strategic leadership training. Armed assailants had targeted the institute, raising alarms about the vulnerability of even high-profile federal installations to banditry and insurgency.
Shettima, accompanied by security chiefs, inspected damaged infrastructure and received briefings on the attack timeline, casualty figures, and current protective measures. He directed immediate reinforcement of perimeter security and intelligence coordination with neighbouring communities to prevent recurrence.
The Vice President’s intervention signals recognition that escalating violence has penetrated previously secure zones, demanding urgent recalibration of national security architecture. Analysts say the attack on NIPSS — a symbol of governance excellence — represents a psychological blow requiring decisive federal response.
The visit comes as the administration faces mounting pressure over deteriorating security nationwide, with governors simultaneously demanding state police establishment to complement overwhelmed federal forces.
