Supercomputer Backs France and Spain as Top Favourites After Semi-Final Line-up Confirmed

The race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup title has narrowed to four teams, with France, Spain, England, and Argentina booking their places in the semi-finals after a thrilling round of quarter-final matches.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the latest Opta Supercomputer projections now identify France and Spain as the two leading favourites to lift the World Cup trophy. According to the statistical model, France has the highest probability of winning the tournament, with Spain closely behind, based on thousands of simulations of the remaining matches.

The semi-final fixtures will see France face Spain in a heavyweight European showdown, while England will take on defending champions Argentina for a place in the final. The matchups were confirmed after England defeated Norway 2-1 after extra time and Argentina overcame Switzerland 3-1 in extra time.

Football analysts believe the tournament remains finely balanced despite the supercomputer’s projections. Argentina’s experience as reigning champions and England’s resurgence under manager Thomas Tuchel mean neither side can be ruled out of reaching the final.

CDA News Nigeria reports that while statistical models provide insight into likely outcomes, the unpredictability of knockout football means any of the four remaining nations still has a realistic opportunity to become world champions.
