The Kano State Government has dismissed comments by elder statesman Engr. Buba Galadima suggesting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf cannot win re-election without the backing of Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, the government described the claim as misleading and a misreading of Kano’s political history. Waiya asserted that power in the state rests with the electorate, whose support has always been tied to performance, credibility, and trust—not godfatherism.
While acknowledging Kwankwaso’s influence, the commissioner noted that leaders like former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and Kwankwaso himself rose to power based on their records, not political anointment.
Waiya highlighted Governor Yusuf’s independent policy achievements in education, institutional reforms, and social equity as evidence that his mandate stands on its own merit. He also cited internal crises within the NNPP as influencing recent political decisions, stressing that the governor’s actions are guided by peace and state progress.
The commissioner expressed confidence in Yusuf’s re-election prospects, adding that leadership strengthens with experience.
