Three Security Operatives Killed in NIPSS Attack in Plateau

The Plateau State Police Command has confirmed that three security operatives were killed during an attack on the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, near Jos.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, said in a statement that the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, June 16, 2026. Reports indicate the victims include two soldiers and one police officer attached to the institute’s security detail.

A source at the institute said the attackers stormed the facility at about 11:40 p.m. and opened fire, sparking a fierce exchange with security personnel. The security operatives successfully repelled the assailants, preventing them from gaining deeper access to the facility.

The Head of Public Affairs at NIPSS, Dr. Osime Samuel, confirmed that a security incident occurred but stated that normal activities are continuing as scheduled. He urged the public to await verified information from official channels as investigations are ongoing.

Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, ordered immediate reinforcement of security around the area and intensified patrols in Kuru and adjoining communities.
