A Nigerian postgraduate student, Chiemka Okoronta, has been sentenced to 10 years in a UK prison for the rape of a 17-year-old girl in Bradford.
The Bradford Crown Court heard that the incident occurred on March 25, 2025. Okoronta met the victim on a night bus and offered to share a taxi after learning her phone was dead. Instead of taking her home, the taxi went to Okoronta’s flat, where he lured the teenager inside, locked her in a bathroom, and raped her.
The victim managed to escape and contacted the police using a passerby’s phone. Judge Sophie McKone described Okoronta as a “dangerous sexual predator” who deliberately targeted and isolated his victim.
In addition to the 10-year sentence, Okoronta received an extended three-year licence period and will be on the sex offenders register for life. The court stated he is likely to be deported to Nigeria after serving his sentence.
