Former Nigerian Leader Urges US Support, Not Threats, in Security Fight

….Abdulsalami Abubakar calls for unity and dialogue following Trump’s comments.

A former Nigerian head of state, Abdulsalami Abubakar, has called on the United States to support Nigeria’s fight against insecurity instead of issuing threats.

The appeal comes after former US President Donald Trump recently redesignated Nigeria a “country of particular concern” and threatened to cut aid and military support.

In a telephone interview, Abubakar stated that such comments pose a “grave threat to the country’s hard-won unity.” He urged Nigerians to set aside differences and unite in the face of external pressures.

“Unity, wisdom, and diplomacy must take precedence over division and pride at this critical moment,” the former leader said.

He emphasized the need for strategic dialogue to de-escalate the situation and address the issues raised.
