Tinubu Approves N70,000 Transport Allowance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a monthly transport support of N70,000 for public service workers across all levels.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the approval was reached following a crucial meeting between the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, and the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), led by Joe Ajaero, on Tuesday.

According to the Federal Government, the transport intervention is expected to commence in November 2026 and will last for six months to cushion the impact of rising living costs. This development comes as the four-day deadline issued by the NLC to shut down the economy over the fuel price hike and minimum wage dispute expired on Tuesday, October 27.

In addition to the transport allowance, the Federal Government also approved the payment of outstanding peculiar allowance arrears, effective from May 1, 2026. These arrears will be paid in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November 2026.

Furthermore, both parties agreed to constitute a negotiation committee that would commence meetings immediately to determine an effective date for implementing a new national minimum wage.
