Tinubu Sacks Wale Edun, Dangiwa as Ministers in Minor Cabinet Reshuffle

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the immediate removal of the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.

The development was confirmed in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, on Tuesday, April 21, 2026.

According to the directive, Edun has been ordered to hand over to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who was previously the Minister of State for Finance. Oyedele has now been elevated to the position of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Similarly, Dr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named the new ministerial nominee and Minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, replacing Dangiwa. Dangiwa has been instructed to hand over to the current Minister of State in the ministry pending the confirmation of the new appointee.

The memo mandated that all handing-over and taking-over processes must be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Explaining the rationale behind the changes, SGF Akume stated that the reshuffle is aimed at “strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda”.

President Tinubu, who exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and wished them success in their future endeavors.
