The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has recorded two major breakthroughs, intercepting 10,000 pills of the notorious “terror drug” Captagon in Kwara State and arresting a businessman who excreted 45 wraps of cocaine in Oyo State.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi said operatives on patrol along Bode Saadu Road in Kwara intercepted a trailer conveying passengers on April 21, 2026. A search of one passenger, 33-year-old Nasiru Mu’azu, led to the recovery of 10 packs of Captagon containing 10,000 pills, alongside nine packets of Tapentadol 250mg.
Captagon, a highly addictive amphetamine, is widely linked to militant groups, including ISIS, who use it to suppress fear and sustain prolonged combat operations. The drug has a street value of up to $25 per pill.
In a separate operation at the same patrol point on April 24, NDLEA officers intercepted another trailer concealing 155,900 capsules of tramadol, 6,000 ampoules of tramadol injection, and other opioids in a hidden compartment. A suspect, Aminu Isah, 24, was arrested.
Meanwhile, NDLEA operatives in Oyo State intercepted a commercial bus at Akinyele along the Ibadan-Oyo expressway on April 21. A passenger, Eze Emeka, 33, who claimed to be a businessman in Sokoto, was taken for a body scan, which confirmed ingestion of illicit drugs.
Under close observation, Emeka excreted 45 pellets of cocaine weighing a total of 1.043 kilograms in three excretions. Babafemi explained that Emeka chose to travel by road to evade airport detection. He planned to rest in Sokoto after excreting the pellets, then re‑ingest them to continue his journey through trans‑Saharan routes to Algeria, with Europe as the final destination.
NDLEA Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the operatives, describing both seizures as major blows to drug syndicates attempting to revive trafficking pipelines. “We are not just seizing pills; we are disrupting the fuel that powers violence in our communities,” Marwa said.
