Uganda Election: At Least Seven Killed as Museveni Eyes Seventh Term

At least seven people were killed overnight in central Uganda following Thursday’s presidential election, which is likely to extend President Yoweri Museveni’s rule into a seventh term.

Police spokesperson Lydia Tumushabe claimed security forces responded in self-defense when “goons” mobilized by the opposition attacked a police station and a vote-counting center.

Early results indicate Museveni has secured over 75% of votes counted from 59% of polling stations. The 81-year-old leader has been in power since 1986 and has won every direct election since 1996.

If confirmed, this victory would keep him in office for over 40 years.
