WASHINGTON – In a significant move, President Donald Trump has officially designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern,” citing widespread violence and the killing of Christians.
The announcement was made via the President’s Truth Social platform on Friday.
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria,” President Trump stated. “Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter.”
The President emphasized that the United States must act when people are persecuted for their faith. He has directed members of the House Appropriations Committee to investigate the situation and report back.
“We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!” Trump added.
The decision follows numerous reports of attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria’s northern and central regions. Militant groups have been accused of burning villages and attacking churches, leading to hundreds of deaths and mass displacement this year alone.
