UMUAHIA – The Abia State Government has inaugurated a seven-member administrative panel of enquiry to investigate the crisis in Okon Aku community, Ohafia Local Government Area, and recommend solutions for sustainable peace.
Inaugurating the panel on Monday, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Prince Uzor Nwachukwu, charged members with identifying the remote and immediate causes of the conflict, the individuals and groups involved, and the roles of traditional institutions, youth groups, and other stakeholders.
The panel, headed by retired Justice Kenneth Wosu, includes Navy Commander MacDonald Uba (Rtd.), Barr. Obinna Chimbuo, HRM Eze Kalu Ogbu, HRM Eze Franklin Nwosu, Mr. Ahunaya George (Head of Service, Ohafia LGA), and Mrs. Charity Okeagu as Secretary.
“The panel is expected to examine the administrative, socio-economic, cultural, and security dimensions of the crisis and recommend measures to ensure lasting peace, harmony, justice, and communal cohesion,” Prince Nwachukwu stated.
He added that the panel may also recommend sanctions against those found culpable and propose further steps in the interest of public peace and sustainable community relations.
The panel has 30 days to submit its report to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
In his response, Chairman Justice Kenneth Wosu thanked Governor Alex Otti for the appointment and expressed confidence in the panel’s ability to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation.
The move underscores the state government’s commitment to resolving communal conflicts through structured dialogue and institutional intervention.
