The Ikwuano Development Union Federated (IDUF) is set to conduct a historic election on December 29, 2025, marking a formal transition in the community’s leadership selection process. An Electoral Committee inaugurated on December 6 has released comprehensive guidelines aimed at ensuring a transparent and fair poll.
Chaired by Dr. Ugbogu Chikwendu of Oloko, the five-member committee—with representation from Ikwuano’s four clans—was mandated to work independently and formulate election rules.
🗳️ Key Election Details
The election will be held at the Ahiaeke Oloko town hall. Accreditation and voting are scheduled from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, with vote counting and announcement of results set for 3:00 PM. Voting will be conducted via secret ballot, with each registered clan producing ten delegates appointed by their Clan President General. Registered branches will also contribute four delegates, evenly selected from the four clans.
⚖️ Zoning and Eligibility Framework
In a significant structural move, the guidelines introduce a zoning arrangement for four essential offices:
· Ikwuano North will contest for the positions of President General, Financial Secretary, Vice President General, Assistant Secretary II, and Provost II.
· Ikwuano South will contest for Secretary General, Treasurer, Deputy President General, Assistant Secretary I, and Provost I.
All other positions are open to contestants from any zone or clan.
Candidates for the four essential positions must be at least 40 years old and hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree or HND. Candidates for all other offices must be above 18 years and meet the same educational requirement. All contestants must be professionally employed or business owners, possess a clean character record, be physically fit, and present an attestation letter from their clan leadership.
📋 Campaign and Nomination Process
The sale of nomination forms began on December 17 and will close on December 26. Form costs range from ₦50,000 for most positions to ₦100,000 for the office of President General. Candidate screening is scheduled for December 26 and 27, with the final list of delegates to be published on December 26.
