The Rivers State House of Assembly has called on the state Chief Judge to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu.
During a plenary session on Friday, lawmakers unanimously voted to proceed with the impeachment process, accusing the governor of violating the constitution and undermining the legislature.
Deputy Speaker Dumle Maol stated that Fubara lacked the trust needed to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state and had resorted to intimidation.
Four lawmakers who previously called for a political solution reversed their stance and supported the impeachment move.
The Assembly also urged Speaker Martin Amaewhule to reconvene the House to advance the process.
