Supreme Court Upholds Conviction of Ex-Governor Lamido’s Son for Currency Non-Declaration

The Supreme Court has dismissed the appeal filed by Aminu Sule Lamido, son of former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido, upholding his conviction for failing to declare $40,000 at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in 2012.

Aminu was arrested by the EFCC after declaring $10,000 to customs officials but being found with an additional $40,000 not disclosed on his currency declaration form. The Federal High Court in Kano had earlier convicted him in 2015 and ordered the forfeiture of 25% of the undeclared amount.

In a unanimous ruling, the apex court rejected his appeal for lacking merit.

Separately, the Supreme Court also ordered the continuation of the ₦1.35 billion fraud trial involving former Governor Sule Lamido, his two sons, and others at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
