ABUJA, NIGERIA – Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has stated that reconciliation efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will continue following the party’s national convention, expressing optimism that ongoing discussions will strengthen the party ahead of 2027.
Speaking to journalists after the convention, Wike confirmed that talks among various factions, including discussions with former National Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu and other stakeholders, remain ongoing.
“Reconciliation continues. We are talking, and we will keep talking. The convention has been held, but that does not mean the end of dialogue. We must continue to unite the party,” Wike said.
The convention, which saw the emergence of new national officers, was initially a source of tension between the Wike faction and the party’s mainstream leadership. However, the minister’s remarks suggest a willingness to build bridges moving forward.
Wike also congratulated the newly elected PDP National Working Committee and urged all party members to work together to reclaim power in 2027.
The PDP has faced internal divisions since the 2023 elections, with various factions calling for reforms and reconciliation. Party leaders have expressed hope that the convention would serve as a springboard for unity.
