Residents of Obiaruku in Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State have raised alarm over an acute shortage of medical personnel at the Obiaruku General Hospital, with only one doctor available to attend to hundreds of patients daily.
According to eyewitness accounts, patients, including infants and elderly persons, endure prolonged waiting times, with some forced to leave untreated due to the overwhelming workload on the lone doctor.
A resident, Mr. Chidi Uwabuofu, recounted a case where a breastfeeding mother left with her sick child after the doctor became exhausted and halted consultations.
The community has appealed to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and relevant authorities to urgently deploy more doctors and healthcare workers to the facility.
