ABUJA, Nigeria — Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has met with the British High Commissioner to Nigeria to discuss issues bordering on democratic governance, economic development, and the need for credible elections in the country.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the meeting focused on strengthening democratic institutions, promoting good governance, improving Nigeria’s economy, and ensuring transparent electoral processes ahead of future elections.
Obi said the discussions also covered the importance of accountability, inclusive leadership, and policies capable of driving sustainable economic growth while restoring public confidence in democratic institutions.
“We had a productive discussion on the importance of deepening democracy, strengthening our economy, and ensuring that credible elections remain the foundation of Nigeria’s democratic development,” Obi said after the meeting.
The engagement comes amid ongoing national conversations on governance, electoral reforms, and economic recovery. Political observers say such diplomatic engagements provide opportunities to exchange ideas on democratic best practices and international cooperation.
