Sokoto Bride, Bridesmaids Freed After 49 Days in Captivity

SOKOTO – A bride and her bridesmaids, abducted just days before her wedding in Sokoto State, have been released after spending 49 days in bandit captivity.

The victims, seized from a residence in the Sabon Birni Local Government Area in May, were freed on Tuesday night. Family sources confirmed their release to CDA News, stating they are currently receiving medical and psychosocial care.

While security agencies have yet to issue an official statement, community leaders confirmed that a substantial ransom was paid to secure their freedom. This incident highlights the persistent insecurity plaguing several Northwest states despite ongoing military operations.

Local authorities are urging increased vigilance as bandit activities continue to disrupt lives and livelihoods in the region.
