Rivers Chief Judge Explains Why He Declined to Form Probe Panel for Fubara

PORT HARCOURT – The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, has publicly explained his decision not to constitute a panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara, citing conflicting court orders and multiple lawsuits as the main reasons.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Justice Amadi said the request from the State House of Assembly was sub judice, as the legitimacy of the Assembly itself and the impeachment notice were subjects of ongoing litigation.

He emphasized the need for the judiciary to remain neutral and avoid actions that could be seen as prejudicing active cases in court. The Chief Judge added that he acted in line with judicial precedents and the constitution to preserve the integrity of the process.

The clarification comes amid heightened political tension in the state, with the Assembly’s move to probe the governor widely seen as part of the continuing fallout between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
