Atiku Calls for Unity, Warns Supporters Against Attacking Peter Obi

ABUJA – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has publicly warned his supporters to cease verbal attacks against Labour Party’s presidential hopeful Peter Obi, stating that such actions undermine opposition solidarity and only benefit the ruling party.

Atiku made the appeal in a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday, urging decorum and unity among opposition figures and their followers ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Anyone who insults Obi or Atiku does not mean well for the leaders, the coalition ADC, and for Nigeria and Nigerians,” Atiku stated. “The only persons who benefit from such a civil war are the APC urban bandits, who want to maintain the satanic status quo.”

The call comes amid rising online exchanges between supporters of major opposition figures, which threaten the cohesion of proposed coalition efforts like the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

In a related development, the APC’s Committee on Strategy, Conflict Resolution, and Mobilisation, chaired by Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, has pledged to proactively address internal disputes within the ruling party to strengthen its position ahead of the polls.

Meanwhile, political analyst Umar Ardo of the League of Northern Democrats noted that Peter Obi’s chances in the ADC would depend significantly on Atiku’s decision to step aside, highlighting ongoing negotiations within opposition ranks.

Atiku reiterated that cooperation, not conflict, remains essential to fostering national development and democratic progress.
