The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Abaji Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory.
According to official results announced by INEC, Abubakar polled a commanding 15,536 votes to secure victory in the February 21, 2026 poll. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate scored 4,547 votes to finish second, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) managed only 37 votes.
The landslide victory further consolidates APC’s strong performance in the FCT Area Council elections, with the ruling party now winning chairmanship seats in multiple councils including AMAC, Bwari, and Abaji.
The election was conducted peacefully across wards in Abaji Area Council, with INEC officials confirming that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) functioned effectively throughout the voting process.
Abubakar’s victory margin demonstrates the APC’s growing grassroots appeal in the FCT and strengthens the party’s position ahead of future electoral contests in the nation’s capital.
