Tinubu’s ‘City Boys Movement’ Harvests Socialites, Entertainers Ahead of Polls

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is consolidating support through the “City Boys Movement,” a political association championed by his son, Seyi Tinubu, that has attracted a wave of celebrities, socialites, and entertainers .

The movement, founded in 2022 as a youth advocacy platform supporting Tinubu’s presidential ambition, has now institutionalized itself across all 774 local governments, focusing on political education, grassroots engagement, and policy advocacy tied to the Renewed Hope agenda .

Key figures aligning with the movement include businessman Obinna Iyiegbu (Obi Cubana), appointed South-East Zonal Coordinator, and Pascal Okechukwu (Cubana Chief Priest), named Imo State director . Others include Yul Edochie, Zack Orji, Bolanle Ninalowo—appointed Atlanta coordinator—and comedian Seyi Law .

The Abia State chapter recently reaffirmed Tinubu as its sole candidate during a town hall in Umuahia, led by patron Chinedum Orji and state director Lucky Igbokwe . The movement has also appointed Suleiman Magaji as North-Central Zonal Youth Coordinator to strengthen youth engagement across the region .

However, the movement has drawn criticism. APC chieftain Eze Chukwuemeka Eze described it as a “movement against the masses,” arguing it promotes elite interests while Nigerians face poverty and insecurity . The Rescue Nigeria Alliance warned that such wealth-driven mobilization threatens democratic values .

Cubana Chief Priest defended his support, stating on Instagram: “If an Igbo Man Supporting Tinubu Is A Betrayal, What Is A Yoruba Man Supporting Obi? We Can Only Be Nigerians For Us To Per Take In Nigeria” . He urged alignment with political structure, saying “Follow Who Know Road” .

Political analyst Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse noted that while celebrities may draw crowds, celebrity status alone may not convince hungry and unemployed citizens to vote for Tinubu’s re-election .
