Hon. Jerry Awa has been elected as the new Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, following the party’s successful and peaceful state congress held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, in Umuahia .
Awa’s emergence forms part of the newly constituted state executive committee produced through a consensus arrangement that saw Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, a former Minority Leader of the Abia State House of Assembly, become the new State Chairman . The congress, which party leaders have described as the first truly seamless in the party’s history, also produced Chidi Avajah as State Secretary and Uche Aguoru as Publicity Secretary .
According to the list of harmonised state executive members, Jerry Away (as published) was returned unopposed as Youth Leader, while Cecilia Erondu emerged as Woman Leader. Other positions filled include Mr John Ajuziogu as Treasurer and Mr Nnabugu Ujumunna as Financial Secretary .
The Chairman of the Congress Committee, Mr Emmanuel Go’ar, who announced the new executive, commended party members for their unity and commitment in ensuring a transparent and rancour-free process .
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who witnessed the congress, praised the peaceful conduct, stating that it marked a new chapter for the APC in Abia State and positioned the party for victory in 2027 .
In his new role, Hon. Jerry Awa is expected to mobilise the youth wing of the party across the 17 local government areas, strengthening grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections. The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, has directed the immediate inauguration of all newly elected executives at ward, local government, and state levels .
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies were present to monitor the exercise, ensuring compliance with electoral guidelines .
