Former Ikwuano Transition Chairman, Chief Clement Onukwue, Resigns From PDP

IKWUANO, NIGERIA — Hon. Chief Clement A. Onukwue, popularly known as Isibumba, and former Transition Chairman of Ikwuano Local Government Area, has officially resigned his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) .

CDA News gathered that the decision to dump the party followed extensive consultations with his family, friends, and political allies, with the primary reason being the persistent division and internal crisis within the PDP .

In a resignation letter dated March 6, 2026, and addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman in Ibere Ward One, Ikwuano LGA, Chief Onukwue expressed gratitude to the party for the opportunities given to him to serve in various positions over the years .

Chief Onukwue thanked the PDP for the platform it provided him to serve his community and the state but stated that the current state of the party, marked by factions and unresolved leadership disputes, had made it untenable for him to continue his membership .

While announcing his resignation, the former council boss did not indicate which political party he intends to join, leaving his next political move a subject of speculation among his supporters and associates .

He concluded by wishing the party well in its future endeavours .

Chief Onukwue’s resignation adds to the growing list of prominent politicians leaving the PDP in Abia State and across the nation, as the party grapples with internal wrangling, legal battles, and mass defections ahead of the 2027 general elections .
