ABUJA — Retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Theophilus Adetunji Akeredolu has died at the age of 83. The Nigeria Police Force announced his passing on Sunday, stating he died on December 9, 2025.
Akeredolu, born on October 25, 1942, served in the police for over three decades, rising to become DIG in charge of Operations (Department B) at Force Headquarters before his retirement in March 2002.
A Distinguished Career:
· Joined the police in 1969 as a civilian lecturer before converting to a General Duty Officer.
· Served as Commissioner of Police in Benue State, Assistant Inspector-General in Zone 6, Calabar, and Commandant of the Detective College, Enugu.
· Received extensive training both locally and internationally, including at the Royal Institute of Public Administration, London, and NIPSS, Kuru.
· Honored with Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) for exemplary service.
Beyond policing, Akeredolu was a traditional leader (Chief Aremo of Afao, Ikere-Ekiti) and an active member of the African Church.
Police Mourn:
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun expressed condolences, praising Akeredolu’s “legacy of service, leadership, and integrity.”
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Yemi Akeredolu, and children.
