Two Arrested Trying to Smuggle Drugs to Kano Prison Inmates

Kano, Nigeria – Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Kano State have arrested two men for attempting to smuggle illicit drugs, including Indian hemp, to inmates at the Nomansland Court Complex.

CDA News gathered that the suspects, identified as 25-year-old Usman Khalid and 24-year-old Bello Musa Ahmed, both from Tsamiya (Brigade) area, were caught by personnel from the Goron Dutse Medium Security Custodial Centre.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Musbahu Lawan, the duo was apprehended while trying to throw the prohibited substances to inmates during a court session. The arrest resulted from increased vigilance by correctional officers during the movement of inmates, a period often targeted for security breaches.

The Controller of the Command, Ado Inuwa, has ordered that the suspects and the seized items be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution.

The NCoS reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards drug-related activities and warned the public against attempting to interact with or supply items to inmates, especially during court proceedings.
