NYSC OFFICIAL ARRAIGNED FOR CONSPIRACY IN FEMALE CORPS MEMBERS’ DEATH

OWERRI, NIGERIA – An official of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been arraigned before a magistrate court in Imo State over alleged conspiracy linked to the death of two female corps members.

The accused, whose name was listed in court documents, was charged alongside other individuals yet to be apprehended. The tragic incident, which occurred during the 2025 Batch B service year, claimed the lives of two corps members under circumstances that have sparked public outrage and calls for justice.

The prosecution alleged that the NYSC official conspired with others to cover up negligence and procedural breaches that contributed to the fatalities. Charges filed by the police include conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and unlawful interference with official investigations.

The defense counsel pleaded not guilty on behalf of the accused, and the court granted bail under stringent conditions. The presiding magistrate adjourned the case to a later date for further hearing.

The NYSC management, in a brief statement, acknowledged the arraignment and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that justice is served, adding that the organization would not shield any staff found culpable.

The families of the deceased corps members, present in court, expressed hope that the legal process would deliver accountability and prevent future occurrences.
