JERUSALEM, ISRAEL – Israel has launched fresh airstrikes on targets in Tehran, escalating hostilities as Iran reportedly mobilizes against strategic sites in the Gulf region, raising fears of a full-blown conflict.
According to Israeli defense sources, the strikes targeted military installations linked to Iran’s nuclear and missile programs. The operation, described as a preemptive measure, came hours after intelligence indicated that Iran was preparing strikes against Gulf energy facilities and allied assets.
Iran’s state media confirmed explosions in the capital, with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) vowing a “crushing response” to what it called an act of aggression. Iranian officials accused Israel of crossing red lines and warned that Gulf nations hosting foreign military bases could become targets.
In response, the United States placed its regional forces on heightened alert, while Gulf states called for urgent de-escalation. The Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil passes, remains under close surveillance.
Global leaders have appealed for restraint, with the United Nations Security Council scheduling an emergency session to address the spiraling tensions. Oil prices surged following the news, reflecting fears of supply disruptions.
Both Israel and Iran have yet to issue official statements detailing the extent of the latest strikes.
