APC Clears Yilwatda, Basiru for 2027 Convention

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has cleared two prominent contenders—Dr. Betta Edu and Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru—as the party begins strategic planning for its 2027 national convention.

The clearing of the two political figures signals the party’s commitment to an inclusive and transparent process ahead of the convention, which will elect new leadership to steer the ruling party into the next election cycle. Sources within the National Working Committee (NWC) confirmed that the screening process for key positions has commenced, with both aspirants meeting all constitutional requirements.

“The party is committed to ensuring that all qualified members have a fair chance. The convention will be free, fair, and credible,” an APC spokesperson said.

The 2027 convention is expected to be a pivotal moment for the ruling party, as it seeks to consolidate its electoral base and present a united front for the general elections. Party leaders have emphasized the need for internal cohesion, urging members to prioritize the collective interest over individual ambitions.

The APC has also begun deploying structures across the 36 states to ensure full participation in the convention, which is scheduled to hold later in the year. Political observers view the clearing of Yilwatda and Basiru as a sign that the party is positioning experienced hands to lead its affairs.
