KANO, NIGERIA – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has issued a directive ordering all political appointees in his administration who are seeking elective offices in the 2027 elections to resign from their positions by March 31.
The Governor, through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, stated that the directive is aimed at ensuring that appointees focus on their campaign aspirations without compromising their official duties. He emphasized that the administration must remain committed to delivering good governance while allowing those with political ambitions the space to pursue their goals.
“All commissioners, special advisers, and other political appointees who intend to contest for any elective position in 2027 must resign on or before March 31,” the statement read.
The directive affects several key appointees who have been linked to various political ambitions ahead of the next election cycle. The Governor warned that any appointee who fails to comply would face immediate dismissal.
Political analysts have described the move as a proactive step to separate governance from campaign activities, ensuring that state resources are not used for personal political pursuits. The Kano State Government has yet to release a list of affected appointees.
