APC Aspirant Sues to Stop National Convention

ABUJA, NIGERIA – A governorship aspirant in the All Progressives Congress (APC) has filed a lawsuit seeking to halt the party’s upcoming national convention, citing alleged irregularities in the conduct of ward, local government, and state congresses across the country.

The aspirant, whose identity was listed in court documents, approached a Federal High Court in Abuja praying for an order restraining the party from proceeding with the convention until the grievances arising from earlier congresses are resolved. The plaintiff argues that the party violated its own constitution and the Electoral Act in the processes leading to the convention.

“The foundation of the convention is flawed. We cannot build a credible national leadership on a faulty structure,” the aspirant’s legal representative stated.

The APC has yet to formally respond to the court action. However, party sources indicated that the leadership is confident the convention will proceed as scheduled, with adequate legal backing.

The national convention, expected to elect new leaders for the ruling party, is a critical precursor to the 2027 general elections. Any disruption could have significant political implications.

The court is yet to fix a date for hearing. Meanwhile, the APC has continued preparations for the convention, insisting that all processes so far have been conducted in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
