Anambra Apprentice, Accomplice Arraigned for Killing Employer with Pestle

AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE – An apprentice and his accomplice have been arraigned before an Anambra State High Court for allegedly killing his employer using a pestle in a brutal attack that has shocked the community.

The defendants, whose names were listed in court documents, face charges of conspiracy and murder. According to the prosecution, the apprentice conspired with his accomplice to attack the employer at his residence, striking him repeatedly with a pestle during a robbery attempt.

The victim, a well-known businessman in the state, was found dead in his home with severe head injuries. The police investigation reportedly traced the suspects through evidence recovered from the scene and witness accounts.

The prosecution presented its case, detailing how the apprentice allegedly turned against his employer after years of trust and training under the traditional “Igba Boyi” apprenticeship system.

The defendants pleaded not guilty. The presiding judge ordered their remand in correctional custody and adjourned the case for further hearing.

The case has sparked discussions about the security of business owners who take in apprentices under the state’s renowned apprenticeship model, with many calling for stricter background checks and monitoring mechanisms.
