ENUGU, NIGERIA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South-East has adopted a consensus arrangement to elect its zonal executives, concluding the exercise peacefully in Enugu State on Thursday.
The zonal congress, which was attended by party leaders and delegates from the five South-East states, saw the emergence of new executives through consensus, in line with Section 84(2) of the Electoral Act. The move was aimed at ensuring unity and preventing divisive contests ahead of the party’s national convention.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who was present at the congress, commended the peaceful conduct and the spirit of unity displayed by party members across the region.
“The seamless coordination, calm atmosphere, and orderliness witnessed throughout this process speak to the unity and cohesion in our various states,” Kalu stated.
The newly elected zonal executives are expected to work towards strengthening the APC’s presence in the South-East, a region where the party has been working to expand its influence ahead of the 2027 elections.
The successful conduct of the zonal congress sets the stage for the party’s national convention scheduled for this weekend in Abuja.
