IBADAN, NIGERIA – The African Action Congress (AAC) has accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of squandering public funds on luxury vehicles and electric bikes for officials of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and local government council members.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the AAC described the purchases as a reckless misuse of state resources at a time when many citizens are grappling with economic hardship. The party alleged that funds meant for critical infrastructure and social services were diverted to acquire the items for political patronage.
“While the people of Oyo State cry for basic amenities, Governor Makinde is busy buying cars and electric bikes for party officials. This is an insult to the electorate,” the AAC spokesperson said.
The party called on anti-graft agencies to investigate the alleged misappropriation and hold the Governor accountable.
The Oyo State Government has yet to respond to the allegations. However, a government source dismissed the claims as politically motivated, stating that all procurements followed due process.
The AAC’s accusation adds to growing scrutiny of state governments’ spending patterns, particularly on non-essential items, amid rising public frustration over economic conditions.
