ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Nigerian Army has retired 18 senior officers who have served the nation for 35 years, marking the end of distinguished military careers.
The officers, comprising major generals and brigadier generals, were honored at a pulling-out ceremony held at the Army Headquarters in Abuja on Friday. The event was attended by top military brass, family members, and colleagues who gathered to celebrate their decades of service.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, commended the retiring officers for their dedication, patriotism, and contributions to national security. He noted that their sacrifices and professionalism had helped shape the modern Nigerian Army.
“You leave behind a legacy of excellence and a standard of service that should inspire the next generation of officers,” Oluyede stated.
The retirees served in various capacities across the country and in peacekeeping missions abroad. They were presented with plaques and other honors in recognition of their service.
The Nigerian Army described the retirement as part of routine administrative restructuring to allow for the advancement of younger officers.
