Soldiers stood solemnly on guard as the Nigerian Army held the funeral of Brigadier General Oseni Omoh Braimah, Commander of the 29 Task Force Brigade (Operation HADIN KAI), and other troops killed in a recent insurgent attack in Borno State.
The burial, which took place in Maiduguri on April 18, 2026, was conducted with full military honours. The sombre ceremony was attended by senior military officers, fellow soldiers, and family members who paid their last respects to the fallen heroes.
Brigadier General Braimah and several of his men lost their lives on April 15, 2026, after their convoy ran into an ambush by insurgents. The general was described by colleagues as a brave and dedicated officer who led from the front.
In a tribute, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, praised the late commander’s sacrifice and reaffirmed the military’s resolve to continue the fight against terrorism. “We will not forget their sacrifice. Their blood strengthens our commitment to peace,” an army spokesperson quoted the COAS as saying.
The funeral procession, captured in photo reports, showed a coffin draped in the Nigerian flag, with armed soldiers providing a guard of honour. Fellow officers saluted as the remains of the general and his men were committed to the earth.
The military has vowed to intensify operations against insurgent hideouts in the North-East.
