The suspected killer in the horrific Amakama triple murder has been found dead in an apparent suicide. Chinedu Anamelechi, a former vigilante commander, was discovered lifeless in a bush in Umuahia South Local Government Area on Thursday, April 16, 2026, just hours after a police manhunt was launched.
Anamelechi was the prime suspect in a violent rampage on April 15, where he allegedly shot his girlfriend, Ezinne Ariwodo, to death, stabbed her sister, and shot a young man who tried to intervene. The Abia State Police Command confirmed his death, stating that his body has been deposited in the morgue.
“The suspect took his own life inside the bush,” a police statement read, confirming that his corpse has been recovered. The discovery has brought a sudden, albeit tragic, end to a case that had sparked widespread outrage.
The community’s anger over the violence remains palpable. While the police have appealed for calm, reports indicate that local youths have already taken matters into their own hands, setting Anamelechi’s house on fire in a display of anger over the brutal killings.
The Abia State Government has condemned the incident and has moved to support the victims’ families.
