A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has again insisted that he was the rightful winner of the 2023 presidential election.
Speaking on the Naija Unfiltered podcast on Saturday, Obi maintained that the outcome declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not reflect the true result of the poll. “I can show you today, as far as I’m concerned, I have run an election for the office of the President of Nigeria and won. But the system decided otherwise, and they know it,” he said.
Obi, who contested under the Labour Party and officially secured about six million votes, repeated the assertion for emphasis: “And we won. I can show you today as far as I’m concerned. I have run for the office of the President of Nigeria and won. But the system decided otherwise, and they know it”.
Looking ahead to 2027, Obi declared that the ADC will win the next presidential election and be officially recognised. He also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure a fair and level playing field for all political parties.
The former Anambra State governor, who has been at the forefront of opposition politics, continues to attract support from those who believe the 2023 election was manipulated, while critics dismiss his claims as revisionist.
