The Federal Government has approved a sweeping welfare package for civil servants, including increased allowances, a new exit benefit, the operationalisation of an Employee Compensation Scheme, and a N10 billion housing loan scheme .
The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Didi Walson-Jack, announced the approval during a media briefing in Abuja on Friday, April 24, 2026 .
Key Features of the Package
Increased Peculiar Allowances: Revised allowances for workers under the CONPSS and CONRAISS salary structures aimed at boosting take-home pay .
100% Duty Tour Allowance (DTA): Civil servants attending approved training programs will receive full DTA, even for local training .
N10bn Housing Loan Scheme: A fund was established to improve access to home ownership for civil servants .
Exit Benefit Scheme: Treasury-funded retirees will receive 100% of their annual emoluments as a gratuity in addition to their pension, effective January 1, 2026 .
Employee Compensation Scheme: The ECS was officially launched to provide financial support for workers suffering work-related injuries or death .
Walson-Jack described the measures as part of a philosophy that “a well-supported civil servant is a more effective civil servant” .
