Operatives of the Anambra State Security Network, popularly known as “Udogachi,” reportedly stormed Peackastel Hotel in Awka on Saturday, where the annual event of the Kegite Club of Nigeria was taking place .
Witnesses told CDA News Nigeria that the security operatives entered the venue “with guns blazing,” harassing and brutalizing members of the club without any clear justification.
The Kegite Club is a long-standing cultural and social organization present in many tertiary institutions across Nigeria, known for its non-violent, convivial gatherings celebrating camaraderie and freedom of expression.
This incident adds to a growing list of complaints against the state’s homeland security outfits, particularly Udogachi and its sister agency Agunechemba, which have faced repeated allegations of excessive force and human rights abuses .
In August 2025, a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Jennifer Elohor, was assaulted and stripped by Udogachi operatives at her lodge in Oba, Idemili North LGA . That incident triggered widespread outrage and calls for the disbandment of the security outfit .
In response to the mounting allegations of misconduct, Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration has defended the security outfits, stating they have significantly reduced crime in the state . The Anambra State Government previously condemned the assault on the corps member and confirmed that eight operatives were handed over to the police for investigation, vowing that the law would take its full course .
Efforts to reach the Anambra State Police Command and the state government’s Special Adviser on Community Security for comments on the latest incident were unsuccessful as of press time.
