Court Adjourns ADC Leadership Tussle Indefinitely, Deepening Uncertainty Within Party

A Nigerian court has adjourned the high-profile leadership dispute rocking the African Democratic Congress (ADC) indefinitely, casting a fresh shadow of uncertainty over the party’s internal governance and organisational stability.
The adjournment, which came without a fixed return date, has further deepened anxiety among party stakeholders, members, and supporters who had hoped for a swift judicial resolution to the lingering leadership crisis.
The suit, which centres on a bitter power struggle over who legitimately occupies the apex leadership position of the ADC, has paralysed key party activities and undermined the party’s capacity to effectively prepare for the 2027 general elections.
Legal counsel on both sides of the dispute are expected to file additional processes before the matter is relisted for hearing, further delaying what many observers describe as an urgently needed resolution.
Political analysts warn that the prolonged court battle is weakening the ADC’s structure at a critical time, making it increasingly difficult for the party to attract candidates, coordinate campaigns, and present a united front ahead of 2027.
Party members across various states have expressed frustration over the unending leadership impasse, calling on stakeholders to explore dialogue and internal reconciliation mechanisms to salvage the party’s future.
The court is yet to communicate a new hearing date.
