PFIPC: Customs Boss Adeniyi Explains How Fake Agency Was Smuggled Into Federal Budget

Abuja, Nigeria — The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Bashir Adeniyi, has explained how the Proposed Federal Investment Promotion and Industrial Council (PFIPC), described as a non-existent agency, was allegedly inserted into the Federal Government’s budget.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Adeniyi said the agency was neither created by law nor recognized by the Nigeria Customs Service, stressing that the inclusion of the PFIPC in budget documents has raised serious concerns about transparency and accountability in the public finance process.

The controversy follows public scrutiny over budget allocations reportedly linked to the PFIPC despite the absence of any legal framework establishing the agency. The Customs boss maintained that the Service had no role in creating or recognizing the body.

“The PFIPC is not an agency established by law, and the Nigeria Customs Service has no official relationship with it. The necessary authorities should investigate how it found its way into the budget,” Adeniyi said.

The revelation has sparked renewed calls for a comprehensive review of the federal budget process, with stakeholders urging the National Assembly and relevant anti-corruption agencies to investigate those responsible for the alleged insertion.

Further investigations and official clarifications are expected as the Federal Government continues efforts to strengthen transparency in public expenditure and budget implementation.
