The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suffered another significant membership loss in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State as Chief Nzeribe Okegbue, PhD — a distinguished party caucus member and experienced stakeholder — formally tendered his resignation from the party with immediate effect.
In a resignation letter dated May 4, 2026, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of the PDP in Usaka Ward, Ikwuano LGA, Chief Okegbue — a highly credentialed professional holding the fellowships of FIBM, FNIIS, FCIAM, FCPA, FIM, CMC, and FCIOTA — cited the party’s protracted and unresolved leadership crisis as the compelling reason behind his departure.
“This decision has become necessary due to the protracted leadership crisis within the party, which has remained unresolved for an extended period,” Chief Okegbue stated clearly in his resignation letter.
Despite his exit, Chief Okegbue expressed deep appreciation for the privilege of serving as a caucus member at the Ikwuano LGA level and for the opportunity to contribute across various committees at both state and national levels of the party — acknowledging that the experiences and lessons gained during his years of membership remain deeply valued.
“Thank you for the opportunity to be part of the party,” he graciously concluded.
Chief Okegbue’s resignation follows a growing wave of high-profile defections rocking the PDP’s structure across Ikwuano LGA, with experienced and respected party members increasingly citing internal disarray, leadership conflicts, and unresolved crises as reasons for their departures.
Political analysts in Abia State warn that if the PDP fails to urgently address its deepening internal crisis, the party risks losing its remaining influential voices in Ikwuano ahead of the critical 2027 general elections.
