ADC Affirms Three Consensus Senatorial Candidates Across All Borno Districts Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally affirmed three consensus senatorial candidates across all senatorial districts in Borno State ahead of the 2027 general elections, in a significant move that signals the party’s growing determination to challenge the APC’s longstanding dominance in the Northeast.

The party announced Alhaji Idris Mamman Durkwa as its candidate for Borno South, Bulama Fugu Ibrahim for Borno North, and Babagana Zanna for Borno Central, with the affirmations conducted across all 27 local government areas of Borno State, supervised by an electoral committee, an appeal panel, and monitored by INEC officials.

In Borno South, the ADC’s consensus candidate Idris Gatumbwa Mamman Durkwa — a former APC governorship aspirant — is being positioned as the party’s best chance to unseat the long-serving Senator Ali Ndume, who is seeking a fifth term in office after already securing the APC senatorial ticket for the district.

ADC Organising Secretary, Mohammed Umar Bolori, confirmed that in addition to the three senatorial candidates, the party also affirmed eight House of Representatives candidates and approximately 25 State Assembly candidates across Borno State through the consensus process, with governorship aspirants still set to undergo competitive primaries.

Durkwa, who previously contested against Senator Ndume during the 2023 APC primaries, expressed strong confidence in ADC’s chances, describing his emergence as a platform to “reposition ADC for unity, growth, and electoral success” in Borno South Senatorial District.

Political analysts say the ADC’s bold move in Borno — traditionally an APC stronghold — reflects the growing opposition momentum building across northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
