Trump Says Iran Peace Deal “Largely Negotiated” — Strait of Hormuz to Reopen as 50/50 Chance Looms

The United States and Iran appear to be on the brink of a historic diplomatic breakthrough as President Donald Trump declared that a peace deal between Washington and Tehran has been “largely negotiated” — a stunning announcement that has sent shockwaves across global financial markets, energy sectors, and diplomatic circles worldwide.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote: “An Agreement has been largely negotiated, subject to finalization between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the various other Countries.”

Speaking in a phone interview with Axios, Trump said he was meeting with top advisers including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to review Iran’s latest proposal and make a final decision by Sunday. He described the chance of a deal as a “solid 50/50” — either he would accept a “good” deal or “blow them to kingdom come.”

Trump told CBS News he would only sign a deal where “we get everything we want,” including a permanent guarantee that Iran would never obtain a nuclear weapon, adding that Iran’s enriched uranium would be “satisfactorily handled” under any agreement.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking to reporters in Sweden on the sidelines of a NATO summit, acknowledged slow but positive movement in negotiations: “We await word on those conversations that are ongoing. There’s been some slight progress. I don’t want to exaggerate it, but there’s been a little bit of movement, and that’s good.”

The proposed deal is reported to include a process for reopening the Strait of Hormuz — the closure of which has severely disrupted global supply chains and driven up fuel prices worldwide — alongside the release of some Iranian assets held in foreign banks and continued negotiations on outstanding issues.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry confirmed it was considering the latest American proposal conveyed through Pakistani mediators, but demanded the US end its blockade of Iranian ports and vessels, describing it as “completely contrary to international law.” Telegraph
Trump warned Tehran in stark terms against walking away: “We’re going to have a situation where no country will ever be hit as hard as they’re about to be hit,” he told CBS News, if Iran fails to come to the table.

The world watches with bated breath as diplomats race against the clock to determine whether the latest round of US-Iran talks produces a historic peace agreement — or a catastrophic return to open conflict.
