Rivers 2027: Fubara Withdrew Voluntarily, Wike Has No APC Membership — Yilwatda Sets Record Straight

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Yilwatda, has waded into the Rivers State 2027 political controversy, making two bold clarifications that are set to reshape the narrative surrounding the state’s increasingly turbulent political landscape.

Yilwatda stated categorically that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s exit from the Rivers State APC governorship consideration was entirely voluntary — dismissing insinuations that the governor was forced out or edged aside by any political pressure from within the party.

According to him, Fubara made a personal and deliberate decision to step back, and attempts to frame his withdrawal as a product of external manipulation are misleading and politically motivated.

On the question of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike’s influence within the APC, Yilwatda was equally blunt — declaring that Wike is not a card-carrying member of the APC and therefore holds no formal authority to direct, dictate, or determine the party’s affairs and decisions in Rivers State.

The statement is significant given Wike’s outsized influence over Rivers State politics, with many observers having long assumed that his political weight extends deeply into APC structures despite his formal PDP background.

Yilwatda’s remarks are expected to further stoke tensions within Rivers State’s already combustible political environment, where the battle lines for 2027 are being drawn with increasing intensity between key power brokers.

Political analysts say the clarifications raise fresh questions about who truly controls the APC structure in Rivers State and what role, if any, Wike legitimately plays in shaping the party’s 2027 governorship agenda.
